The Toxic Avenger “Review”

Release date: September 21, 2023 (USA)

Director: Macon Blair

MPAA rating: R

Adapted from: The Toxic Avenger

Running time: 1h 42m

Distributed by: Cineverse Corp.Iconic Events

Intrigued by the trailer and loved the panel at Comic Con 2025. Had to check this feature out!

Modern day B-Movie? This was a lot of fun! Cult movie? Probably a niche interest but give it ago for sure. A fantastic intro setting up the villains grinds slightly to a slower pace before building back up into madness. So much cheesy silly fun and I’m all about it.

Peter Dinklage is playing single father “Winston Gooze”, a janitor at BTH company. A company mind you kind of like Simpsons Power Plant that’s infecting the residents through toxic waste and creating hideous mutations……

Winston’s son “Wade” is played by Jacob Tremblay, from excellent performances in the recent Life of Chuck. Prior years, Wonder, Room & Good Boys among many other features.

Kevin Bacon is the head of BTH “Robert Garbinger” who has an evil group of “Monsters?” working for him lead by Elijah Woods character (That gives me Penguin vibes) “Fritz Garbinger”.

Without going into the entire story and breaking it down. Let’s just say, our Toxic Avenger friend is here to save the day from these crooks and it sure does get toxic. Viewer discretion is advised for this unrated gore fest :D.

Sadly it didn’t keep the greatness levels engaged. However it was a solid good movie totally worth the watch. I’d watch it again for certain scenes but otherwise I’m ready to watch some sequels in this universe. Popped score of 7.5/10.

Speaking of wanting to watch more. Stick around for the ending post credit scene to see a tease of a sequel along with a fun little slice of life.

With that being said, what did you think of the Toxic Avenger? Too much and had to walk out? loved it? Something entirely else? Let me know in the comments below.

As always, appreciate you coming by Popped.blog for your movie “Reviews” stick around next up for The Roses.

Thunderbolts* “Review”

Release date: May 2, 2025 (USA)

Director: Jake Schreier

Running time: 2h 6m

Story by: Eric Pearson

MPAA rating: PG-13

Distributed by: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Is Marvel back or some may say are the Avengers back? If you read my Cap 4 “Review” you know my stance with current Marvel and Thunderbolts was on my list of hope… was hope for breakfast or served spoilt milk…. let’s discuss.

The quick review (Non Spoiler)

Super fun time, would watch again, stay until the very end. Want to watch again. Lots of scenes stuck with me that I’d love to hear from others their reactions and thoughts on.

Non Spoiler “Review” – Cucumber is my safe word 😀

Loved these characters, want to spend more time with them and excited to get back to the Thunderbolts* in repeat viewings / future content.

Personal stand outs, Yelena (Played by Florence Pugh) – Fantastic with the team, great character development and lots of cool scenes to explore. Red Guardian – (Played by David Harbour) Yelena’s father is so funny and love the continued development between himself and Yelena. Epic Duo loved them but there’s more. U.S Agent – (Played by Wyatt Russell) Surprisingly a hit. Coming from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021. We have my glue between Yelena & The next person on my stand out list. Loved their introduction sequence and that brings us to Bob – (Played by Lewis Pullman) know him or not I think Bob is going to be a fan favorite. Plenty of setup to be intrigued and enough to pull back on to explore this new character randomly thrown into the mix.

MCU – The Marvel Cinematic Universe feels like it’s back. It has it’s Universe back. No longer feeling like a stand alone title. Without going into spoilers. This feels apart of the overall story and I’m ready for what’s to come.

End Credit Scene – Non Spoiler – Stay to the very end. The mid scene this time around is the fun one. Stay to the end. You wont want to miss it. Trust me 😀

What’s next to discuss? You want some more? How about some vague but crazy lines to get you intrigued but beware of potential spoilers? Then stick around to the very end. Mind you, we’ve got to give a score. With me wanting to return and watch again. I’m giving Thunderbolts* a Popped score of 8/10.

Thank you – For coming by Popped for your movie “Review” of Thunderbolts*. Planned for this week is Surfers among many random titles releasing over this weekend and next. But until then. Enjoy watching Thunderbolts* it’s a lot of fun and feels like the MCU is back. See you next batch. Let’s get Thunderbolts* to at least 80Mill opening weekend…100 would be awesome – Beating Minecraft would be juicy :D.

Potential Spoilers – Beware – Some fun little comments

DC has some competition with this team with an upcoming superhero of theirs. Who will win? Goku* VS Superman?

Marketing felt like old time Marvel marketing 😉 nice one! Let’s keep this up and not return to Captain America 4 territory.

New discussion unlocked – Who’s the real Avengerz? Or even, who’s your Avengers?

2026 gunna be a good freaking year for Marvel and I’m honestly feeling pretty good. Fab 4 has some work for me to get into. But Thunderbolts* is carrying 2025 on it’s back.

The Sound Track! :OMG I HEARD IT!

Enjoy 😀

Potential Spoilers – Beware – Some fun little comments

Captain America: Brave New World “Review”

Release date: February 14, 2025 (USA)

Director: Julius Onah

Budget: $180 million

Story by: Rob Edwards; Malcolm Spellman; Dalan Musson

Distributed by: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Based on: Marvel Comics

Did I get the Abigail treatment? If you’re avoiding spoilers then here’s a quick popped score – Personal Score: 3/10 (Stream)Fair Score: 6/10 (It’s mostly okay but damn was it way to long to rewatch the trailer.)

Don’t read on, Spoiler Rant-ish warning going forth

If you’re a fan of Eternals, then you’ll probably enjoy this title. I could have walked out of Eternals and be happy to not wasted my time. I kind of feel like this with Brave New World. Nothing really happens in the universe of MCU. I feel like the U in MCU has been forgotten about.

A 2 hour movie to setup a 1 minute post credit scene to remind you of the U, is a waste of blooming time. When it takes an hour and a half in a 2 hour movie to watch the scenes heavily revealed in the trailers….it’s a waste of time. When it last 10minutes and sucked! It’s a waste of time.

Drawing out the outcome to get to the reveal for an hour and a half…..is a waste of time. It’s mostly fine at around a 6/6.5 out of 10 but personally I’d have played it in the background streaming it.

I’m seriously loosing faith that the MCU can return. I’m so tired of this new standard of Marvel film. The last good one outside of Deadpool was Shang Chi almost 4 years ago. I’m not interested in Fantastic 4 and hopeful for Thunderbolts to be fun, but otherwise….can we get Moon Night back please and start forming a new group of avengers with fun stories.

I’ll give it to secret wars before I drop the MCU. I really hope that can swing things around.

Shall I rant and go red hulk on this ? Or leave it there? Let me know in the comments.

With that out of the way…shall we get started on a discussion about the best animated movie of 2025 😀 Ne Zha 2, because I’ve been looking forward to hype the shit outta it since I watched it earlier :D.

Kraven the Hunter “Review”

Release date: December 13, 2024 (USA)

Director: J. C. Chandor

Budget: $110–130 million

Story by: Richard Wenk

Distributed by: Sony Pictures Releasing

Based on: Marvel Comics

WoW! That’s a lot of $ to waste on this movie Sony. Maybe learn from WB and write it off on taxes rather than announce that this series is going no where and you’re done with your Spiderman less spin off movies.

Well, we’re counting down to the main event for the game awards so lets discuss the pros and cons. Or even the potential and wasted opportunities that Kraven the Hunter could have setup before Sony announced it’s going nowhere.

I’d like to start with some positives. The most positive is that this is a watchable movie and not awful like Morbius & Madame Web.

Loved the opening scene which they released online. I see why as it’s the best scene\s of the movie. Lots of good action worth checking out on the big screen. Honestly an entire could be cut from this feature to save 30 minutes would have gotten this back to a 7. I started at an 8 from the opening which quickly dropped with the backstory.

Loved Aaron Taylor-Johnson whom plays Kraven the Hunter. It’s a little odd seeing how he’s the “Good” guy of this title after playing Spiderman 2 video game. However! I loved the opportunity this movie sets-up to have an Amazing Spiderman 3 which bounces off this movie, the video game and the ending of Amazing Spiderman 2.

Maybe that’s why I ended up giving this a 6/10 because of the potential to have these characters in an actual amazing spiderman movie….Buuuut I have no idea what Sony is cooking up now. Will they start from scratch? Jump off where Marvel currently is? Try and salvage these spin-off movies but now include Spiderman? Love to hear your thoughts on that in the comments.

Calypso by the way was the character I’d cut from this movie. I’m not sure her origins from the comics but in this movie she’s not needed. Kraven’s brother Dimitri played by Fred Hechinger which you may remember most recently from Gladiator 2 would be my almost cut from the film but offered enough where I’d like to see his character more in an Amazing Spiderman sequel.

Loved Kraven’s dad being played by Russell Crowe. Sadly the storyline that played out wasn’t the one setup in my head from the start which was unfortunate. Still had lots of awesome worth watching scenes and I enjoyed where he took the story of Kraven toward the end of the movie to jump from into what’s going to come next? If anything comes from it at all :S.

I’d place Kraven probably 2nd best Sony Spiderman movie of the spin-off movies. 1st place going to Venom 1 of course. I did enjoy this more than Venom 2/3* (Overall – 3 Had some good scenes still) and way more than the previous mentioned Morbius & Madame Web.

I’d love to get the video game Kraven from these actors in a sequel but who knows what Sony is doing next with these properties.

From a 8/10 down to a 7 then eventually a 6. I gave Kraven the Hunter an above average 6/10 rating and with that, we wrap up the spiderman less spiderman movies from Sony. Let’s give them lots of good feedback for their new direction.

With DC resetting, Marvel? Rethinking their direction?, now Sony resetting? I’m excited to see if Comic Book movies can come back and be done right again.

Thank you all for coming by Popped.blog – Enjoy the Game Awards and I’ll see you next time with potentially Sonic or ??? an unexpected viewing of The Order maybe?

Venom: The Last Dance “Review”

Release date: October 24, 2024 (USA)

Director: Kelly Marcel

Distributed by: Sony Pictures Releasing

Based on: Marvel Comics

Budget: $120 million

Edited by: Mark Sanger

Welcome back movie goers to Popped with Venom: The Last Dance…..I hope they break a leg O.o?

I’ll give you a quick “Review” followed by a little more detailed “Review” that may go slightly into spoiler territory.

Non Spoiler Version

I wish Sony & Disney Marvel could play nice having this within the MCU. Having the second Venom film leading into the MCU to then be instantly thrown out makes this movie a huge disappointment for any kind of easter egg going forth. We’re in the Sony Universe and this is the best they have to offer :S eeek!

I had some fun with this movie but sadly there was way to much drag between good moments. Even when times got good or interesting it was short lived.

If you’re watching Venom for Sony Verse then check it out. If not, save your time and get told what happens in the cliff notes. Better yet get yourself a PS5 / PC and play Spiderman 2. Thank me later.

Without going into spoilers I’ll give this a 5/5.5 out of 10.

Average movie, disappointing and honestly probably could be skipped unless Sony can do something with their Sony verse to get this on the track.

Little Spicy/Spoiler Version

Eddie Brock accompanied by the voice of Venom (Mostly). Are back in their universe and on the run from killing the officer from Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Sadly no easter eggs planted along the way (That I Saw) but honestly a certain element that made this movie good. Could have been totally done better and for the build up at least lasted longer.

Again, go play Spiderman 2 and you’ll thank me.

Two end scenes for this feature. Mid scene is a setup for next movie just like Let There Be Carnage did. Last scene after waiting 10minutes of credits is a gag scene probably not worth it unless you utilize the time for a bathroom break and come back.

Took an hour to pickup and then shortly lived I’d say I’m rather disappointed with a 5/10 but some of the scenes were fun giving it the .5 to almost above average at best.

Real question is, should I watch Hit Pig or wait for Here to arrive in theatres. I really hope November turns things around because October had a lot of promise and some heavy misses.

2 Months remain of 2024. How are your top 10’s forming? Does it stack alongside my list and if not. What would you drop / add? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for checking out Popped. Blog and I’ll see you in the next batch.

Deadpool & Wolverine “Review”

Release date: July 26, 2024 (USA)

Director: Shawn Levy

Distributed by: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Based on: Marvel Comics

Budget: $200 million

Cinematography: George Richmond

Go watch this movie, have a bloody good time and then come back because I’m just going to gush all over this thing like the guy from the TSA making calls to HR but secretly loving what my eyes are locked in on.

Got your attention? Yea, then buckle up sweat heart because this is one hell ova thrill ride. From the epic and very nicely paired soundtrack action scene this movie had me hooked. Yea the pacing takes a significant nose dive for awhile. The fun and laughs just ramp right back up until the next over the top set of scenes.

Who’d have known we’d be getting a sequel to not only Deadpool 2. But also Logan, *****, **** *****, AMONG SO MUCH MORE! Have you seen the movie already? Why are you still reading this. Go by 5 tickets and watch this movie already. Go have a blast. Look for the easter eggs. Watch it again. Then go back with a group of friends and eventually your family.

Based of feeling and how I started and left the showing. Easily breaking my 9/10’s to slam this down as #1 with a 10/10. If I had to pick at it and want more then I’d go with an 9.5/10. Best movie of the year? Did you watch the movie already? Yes!? Then why ask such an obvious question.

MCU Jesus is here to save Marvel and set the timeline right in it’s place. We’ve been de-railed for quite some time and Deadpool & Wolverine are here to save the day.

$200 Million budget? WoW! That’s cheap of Disney. Should have been $300 Mill as this will be making it back within opening weekend. Let’s Fucking Go with a directors cut and crank this thing to 2 and a half hours or even 3 :D.

Loved this movie clearly. Stick around to read more spoiler things. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

WARNING SPOILERS WARNING SPOILERS WARNING SPOILERS

WARNING SPOILERS WARNING SPOILERS WARNING SPOILERS

YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

The Cameo’s in this movie not only hit and hit hard but bloody well may have been perfect. Doctor Strange fucked up with it’s multiverse use of cameo’s and Deadpool & Wolverine have salvaged the multiverse.

Bring on Secret Wars baby! Skip Kang – This movie did it’s job. Now don’t fuck it up Marvel! Comic Con is this week! I can’t wait to hear what’s announced for the next phase on Saturday.

Thank you so bloody much for doing Blade in this movie. With how bad the modern day Blade movie is having a hellish time getting started. We have the one and only Blade in the building baby! Leave Blade here and I’ll be happy.

Loved the send off to 20th Century Fox. So good. Stay for the credits or miss out on that beautiful tear jerking finale.

Love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. If you’re reading this hopefully you’ve seen the movie or abouts to and are truly hyped for what’s to come.

Can’t wait to watch this again!
